Princeton Internships in Civic Service

Jeri Schaefer, Executive Director

Jeri Schaefer, Executive Director of PICS, is a graduate of American University, Washington D.C., and New York Law School. She practiced workers compensation law for several years at a top 10 New Jersey law firm. For the past twelve years she has been a leader and past board president of the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County. In this role she brings experience and success in influencing the strategic direction of an organization experiencing rapid growth and transition, board development and fundraising. Born in New Jersey, she and her family are long-time Princeton residents.

Jeri’s years with JFCS and other non-profit community service organizations allows her to relate to the PICS students as one whose community service experience inspired her to leave a career in law to pursue one that advances the awareness and need for exceptional individuals to become engaged in the non-profit community, whether as a career or a volunteer. This spirit of civic service is what also inspires her. Robert F. Kennedy once said, “There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask … why? I dream of things that never were, and ask … why not? … This quote epitomizes the essence of leadership in civic service. She will use a positive attitude, creativity and energy to implement the work of the Princeton Internships in Civic Service program.

“PICS is a dynamic program offering great opportunities for talented Princeton undergraduates to both gain an understanding of the work of nonprofit organizations and also provide skills so desperately needed by those organizations.”
