Leonard D. Schaeffer is the founding Chairman & CEO of WellPoint. He is a graduate of Princeton University and a member of Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber’s President’s Advisory Council. Leonard is currently the Judge Robert Maclay Widney Chair and Professor at the University of Southern California and a Senior Advisor to TPG Capital. In federal government, Mr. Schaeffer served as Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration (now CMS) with responsibility for Medicare and Medicaid. He was also the Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget of the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Schaeffer is a member of multiple boards, including: the boards of trustees of USC, RAND, the Brookings Institution and the board of fellows at Harvard Medical School. He serves on the boards of Walgreens and scPharmaceuticals. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He was a Gilbert Fellow at Princeton.
