Baker Industries

Baker Industries is a vital non-profit workforce development program that helps vulnerable adults challenged by disability, parole/probation, homelessness and substance use disorder get back to work. Each year, over 200 hard to employ adults get a paid work opportunity at Baker as well as coaching, training and support to build job readiness. Each year, dozens of these individuals progress to living wage employment with local companies.

The Philadelphia region is challenged with one of the highest poverty rates in the country. Incarceration, addiction and lack of affordable housing all contribute to this condition. A good job opportunity is foundational to helping individuals break free from the cycle of intergenerational poverty that afflicts so many. For over forty years, Baker Industries has been addressing this challenge - providing paid work in a trauma-informed setting. From our two locations in Malvern and Kensington, participants in our program learn basic job skills, teamwork and leadership that form the basis of a solid, sustainable employment experience. We have a long tradition of working with student interns and involve them in our day to day work as well as important projects. Students can expect a hands on, immersive experience that really makes a difference.
