Internship Description
Project(s) will be determined based on intern's skills, but prior projects focused on the development of clinical, behavioral, policy and community-engaged research. Through research, the team strives to better understand and improve the health of adolescents living with HIV/AIDS and other marginalized youth including LGBT and homeless adolescents as well as utilization of health technology. Other areas include global health, mental health, sexual/reproductive.
Prior PICS interns completed qualitative study of HIV-related tweets by males to determine prominence of negative endorsements and themes as well as development, usability, and piloting of an app to help youth living with HIV in their transition from pediatric to adult care. Interns learned how to do medical chart abstractions, qualitative coding, conduct literature reviews, assisted with focus groups, gained cultural competency with our patient populations, and more. Past PICS interns received professional development mentorship during and after their internship such as thesis advising, resume/CV review, goal setting, etc.

Housing Information
CHOP is located in university city neighborhood of Philadelphia around several universities (UPENN, Drexel, etc.). Many students seek people looking to sublet for the summer months when they return home or to another city for work so PICS interns can seek possible sublet opportunities if working on campus. Opportunities for remote internships are also available which would not require housing.
Internship Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working in a research, office, and/or virtual setting experience and proficiency with MS Office (Word, excel, powerpoint, etc.)
- High professionalism, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Interest, knowledge, or experience working with special populations of adolescents (homeless, HIV+, LGBTQ+)
- Knowledge of sexually transmitted infections/diseases, mental health, or global health a plus, but not required
