Children’s National Hospital, known as “the nation’s children’s hospital,” is a free-standing pediatric facility with Magnet® designation. Children’s National has been serving the nation since 1870 and has grown from 12 to 323 beds in metropolitan Washington, D.C. The hospital also provides care to patients in and from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, as well as parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Children’s National is one of the nation’s Top 10 pediatric hospitals and, for a third straight year, is ranked Number 1 in newborn care, as well as ranked in all specialties evaluated by the U.S. News & World Report. The Emergency Department at United Medical Center is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Thousands of patients are seen annually at this site by pediatric board-certified physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other clinical care team members.
NOTE: This internship can only take place in-person. As of 12/8/21, Children's National is unable to guarantee that all in-person internships will go forward. Applicants for this position should therefore understand there is a possibility of this internship being cancelled if Children's Hospital safety protocol warrants it.
The PICS intern will support the writing, data analysis and submission of the ANCC PTAP Accreditation document. Specifically we will ask the intern to work with nurse educators to gather evidence and examples to support the required elements of the accreditation process. We will expect the intern to have strong verbal, written and analytic skills as the intern will work closely with all members of the team, support education and analyze data. The intern will also be asked to review and edit the accreditation document that will be submitted to ANCC on Aug 1, 2022 as we seek re-accreditation of our Transition to Practice Program for Nurse Residents.

- Internships at Children's National require an onboarding process that must be completed prior to the start of the internship. Failing to complete the onboarding on time will result in internship being revoked.
