Civic Consulting Alliance is a social impact consulting firm based in Chicago, and our mission is to make the Chicago region a great place for everyone to live in and work. We work with government agencies, non-profits, foundations, community organizations, and leaders like the Cook County Board President, Chicago Mayor, and Chicago Superintendent of Police to help solve the region's most pressing problems. Specifically, our work aims to provide better educational opportunities, safer streets, thriving communities, and an economy that works for everyone. Internship Description

We are looking for interns who are passionate about making Chicago a better place, and have the problem-solving, analytical, research and communications skills to put that passion into action. Civic Consulting Alliance provides unique opportunities to:

  • Develop your understanding of the public sector, current civic challenges in Chicago, and making large-scale, cross-sectoral change

We are a fast-paced organization committed to our clients’ successes and we are looking for curious and passionate leaders who take initiative. Though this internship is only 10 weeks, this role carries significant responsibility – your project team and client will rely on your hard work and creative thinking. As a Civic Consulting Alliance intern, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of key management consulting skills as well as public sector policies, operations, and challenges
  • Participate in a structured professional development and training program
  • Gain exposure to senior executives who are active in the civic, public and private sectors


On a day-to-day basis, typical consulting projects will provide the opportunity to:

  • Interview subject matter experts and research best practices to identify innovative solutions to local challenges
  • Analyze community metrics, or crime, health, and economic data
  • Prepare and deliver recommendations to clients with written and visual aids
  • Interact directly with day-to-day clients, often while working on-site at client offices
  • Provide project management support

Internship Qualifications

  • A deep desire to address critical community issues and help Chicagoland thrive
  • Critical thinking, analytical/logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Word/PowerPoint/Excel, exposure to quantitative data analysis, and ability to learn and apply new technical skills
  • Self-motivating nature, with ability to comfortably multitask, handle ambiguity, and integrate feedback
  • Commitment to Civic Consulting Alliance’s core values: Collaboration, Impact, Leadership, Sound Judgment, Excellence

Additional Qualifications

  • Ties and/or commitment to the Chicago region
  • Experience working with/or on behalf of low-income and/or underrepresented communities

**Writing sample required: Please draft a one page memo to the Mayor of Chicago about a critical issue in the city. In your memo, provide an overview of the issue, challenges associated with the issue, and your proposed solutions and recommendations.
