Office of Congressman Tom Malinowski

The Office of Congressman Tom Malinowski represents the constituents of NJ District 7, including all of Hunterdon County and parts of Warren, Morris, Somerset, Union, and Essex Counties. Interns will be crucial to the work of the office, assisting with phone calls, constituent correspondence, legislative research, and more. Interns will gain invaluable experience relating to public service and the legislative process while assisting staff seeing first hand the workings of Capitol Hill.

Internship Description

Interns will be the front line of the office to constituents through answering phones, manning the front desk, sorting constituent mail, drafting legislative correspondence, and more. Additionally interns will assist legislative staff with their research for potential legislation by utilizing CRS, attending briefings, and writing memos. Interns will also complete their own legislative project over the course of the semester to brief the Congressman on at the end of their internship. Interns will not only gain invaluable experience in legislative work on Capitol Hill but also will have the opportunity to network and learn from the Congressman and his staff.

Housing Information

As almost all offices have summer interns from out of the area, there are many housing options for interns to live just with each other, in addition to dormitories by gender. These can be found on google or I can send resources to the intern.

Internship Qualifications

Customer Service skills (phones, correspondence), research skills, the ability to solve problems and help staff quickly.

Additional qualifications:

  • Strong personality and sense of humor.

Writing Sample Requirement

  • 1-page writing sample of candidate's choosing.
