Office of Congresswoman Haley Stevens

Congresswoman Haley Stevens represents Michigan's 11th Congressional district, a suburban-Detroit area. She was first elected to U.S. Congress in 2018 and was reelected again in 2020. She currently serves on the Education and Labor Committee and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, serving as Vice-Chair of the latter. She also serves on four subcommittees, chairing the Subcommittee on Research and Technology.

The mission of the office is to represent Michigan 11th's constituents in Washington and provide excellent constituent services. There are approximately 10 staff members in the Washington, D.C. office who interface regularly with interns on projects and office administration.

Internship Description

Interns are crucial to the success of a Congressional office. Interns assist with office administration tasks, such as answering phones and office organization, but they also are an integral part of the communications and legislative work in the office. Interns assist with press clips and research for press, they help determine appropriate responses to constituent correspondence, and they help provide quality constituent services through casework assistance, among other things. Interns are also given the opportunity to participate in many Hill networking events and are empowered to take on a legislative research project to work on over the course of the internship.

Housing Information

Congressional interns are typically responsible for securing their own housing. Many sublease an apartment or home in Washington for the duration of the internship. Alternatively, some stay with family or friends who live in the area. In the summer, there are options to secure housing through George Washington University, as they reserve space in the residence halls for summer interns on the Hill.
