Internship Description

Researcher- This internship is geared for a student interested in developing and expanding their knowledge and skills in marketplace research and its applications within a nonprofit business world with a focus on food insecurity. The goal is to understand what the organizational needs are and then identify how TechSoup and community developers can assist them in addressing those needs. The research completed and the documents produced will guide our work in the use and distribution of our apps, programs, and services. It will also inform the development of new and/or existing programs and services that are in demand.

The position has some flexibility depending upon student's background and interest. The position also crosses many disciplines and sectors- technology, social services, community engagement, research, etc.

Housing Information

Housing in the Bay Area is costly, but given covid-19 and our concern for the safety of our employees and interns, we have created a remote internship program.

Internship Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Scope of work must align and complement student’s academic pursuit or area of study
  • Student must have a functioning computer and the ability to work remotely 20-24 hours (minimum) per week throughout their summer internship
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of people
  • Responsive with the ability to accept feedback and incorporate into one’s work
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with staff and student cohort
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes
  • Enthusiasm for and interest in civil society services
  • Excellent writing, analytical, communication, presentation, and research skills
  • Extensive research experience; knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative strategies
  • Intellectually curious and an eager problem solver
  • Self-starter and hard working
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage several tasks at once
  • Familiarity and proficiency with a variety of research methods, tools and resources
  • Familiarity and proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Suite
